The 2026 Mark Gorney, MD, Memorial Lecture will feature Daniel Aaron, MD, JD, speaking on A New Legal Standard for Medical Malpractice. The session will be moderated by Julie Ritzman, MBA, CPHRM, Vice President of Patient Safety Risk Management for The Doctors Company.

Mark Gorney, MD, was a plastic surgeon and dedicated member of the plastic surgery community. After completing his studies, which included enrolling in Harvard University at age 16, a brief interruption to serve in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, and a one-year internship in Paris, Dr. Gorney was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1957. Dr. Gorney subsequently served as President of the California Society of Plastic Surgery (1978-79) and the President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (1982-83). He also served as a founding member of the Board of Governors and the first Medical Director for The Doctors Company. During his time at TDC, Dr. Gorney became a leader in medical risk management and insurance coverage. He worked tirelessly to help other providers navigate these areas until his death in November 2014.
