Reconstructive Perspectives from Plastauk - Bone Biology, Microsurgery, and Hand Restoration | Global Partners Webinar
Description
This ASPS Global Partners Webinar, presented in collaboration with European plastic surgery leaders, explores reconstructive topics spanning skeletal dimorphism, microsurgical access, and hand surgery. Dr. Tom Andrew examines bone remodeling differences between sexes and proposes localized hormonal therapy to accelerate healing in surgical patients. Dr. Urška Čebron addresses barriers to microsurgical care in low-income settings, informed by firsthand research and clinical experience. Dr. Laura Belloni highlights the surgical application of the great toe pulp (GTP) flap in challenging fingertip reconstruction cases. Moderated by Dr. Vikram Sharma, this session offers biologic, technical, and global perspectives on modern reconstructive practice.

Intended Audience
Reconstructive plastic surgeons, microsurgeons, hand surgeons, and trainees interested in skeletal biology, global surgical access, and innovative fingertip reconstruction techniques.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Understand skeletal sexual dimorphism and explore its implications for bone healing and surgical planning.

  2. Recognize systemic and technical barriers to performing microsurgery in resource-limited settings.

  3. Evaluate the indications and outcomes of GTP flaps for reconstructing complex fingertip injuries.
