The study found recurring complications in these patients, primarily due to three types of treatments: energy-based devices, threads, and fillers.<br /><br />Common issues included cheek fat atrophy, significant scar tissue formation, compromised flap blood supply, and large-volume injectable-related problems. Specifically, cheek fat atrophy resulting from energy-based treatments was noted in 15 cases. Significant scar tissue formation due to prior energy treatments or thread lifting was seen in 58 cases. Additionally, the presence of large-volume injectables created challenges during surgery. Patients also faced prolonged postoperative swelling and, in severe cases, compromised blood supply or skin necrosis.<br /><br />The study emphasized the need for plastic surgeons to be adept at managing complications from prior minimally invasive procedures. Strategies such as modifying traditional surgical techniques and staging procedures to address tissue damage or abnormalities are crucial for successful outcomes post-face lift. The research advocates for setting realistic patient expectations, conducting thorough preoperative evaluations, and using careful surgical planning to address these challenges.<br /><br />Overall, while minimally invasive treatments offer a less risky, low-downtime alternative to surgery for cosmetic concerns, their long-term impact on surgical options like face lifts necessitates skilled surgical adaptation and strategic problem-solving by plastic surgeons.
