Video Summary
The webinar, hosted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in partnership with Integra LifeSciences, reviewed wound reconstruction technologies and focused on PriMatrix Dermal Repair Scaffold.

Integra’s portfolio includes urinary bladder matrix products for early wound management, PriMatrix for dermal restoration, Integra dermal matrices for definitive reconstruction, and amniotic membranes for wound coverage. PriMatrix is a fetal bovine dermal scaffold that preserves collagen architecture and supports cellular infiltration, vascularization, and tissue remodeling. Speakers described its ability to conform to wounds, absorb fluid, and integrate early.

Plastic surgeon Peter Arnold discussed using PriMatrix in difficult wound environments, including chronic lower-extremity wounds and Fournier’s gangrene. He emphasized thorough debridement and adequate blood supply, and shared cases that progressed to skin grafting after scaffold incorporation.

Hand surgeon Suhail Matani presented cases involving exposed bone, tendon, and nerve reconstruction. In several patients, wounds healed through re-epithelialization without the planned skin graft, avoiding another operation. He highlighted the potential value of rapid revascularization, particularly when operating-room access, patient compliance, or follow-up is limited.

In the discussion, clinicians addressed wound-bed preparation, graft expansion, moisture maintenance, use over muscle, and repeat applications. They noted that PriMatrix generally requires a vascularized wound bed and careful moist wound care; negative-pressure dressings may help secure it. Product selection should reflect the wound, anatomy, patient, and reconstructive goals, with flaps or other approaches considered when blood supply is inadequate or critical structures require coverage.
