Video Summary
Dental plaque bacteria, especially Streptococcus mutans, cause tooth decay; brushing, flossing, regular dental visits, and limiting sugar help prevent it. Untreated cavities may spread into facial spaces and form abscesses requiring urgent drainage and antibiotics. Dental assessment and treatment before head-and-neck radiation can reduce osteoradionecrosis risk. Dental trauma includes fractures, luxations, and avulsions; an avulsed tooth should be replanted within 60 minutes, splinted, and urgently assessed by dental specialists. After extraction, firm gauze pressure and avoiding vigorous rinsing help prevent dry socket. Teeth may need removal if severely diseased, mobile, fractured, or obstructing fracture reduction.
